How to Search for a Business License in the City of Los Angeles

A business license is a type of permit issued by a local government agency that allows an individual or a business to conduct a certain specified type of business within the local jurisdiction. Business licenses for the city of Los Angeles are issued by Los Angeles County. The Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector offers a free online tool that allows you to search for a business license in the city of Los Angeles.

Instructions

1. Open a web browser on your computer and go to the Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector's online business license inquiry service tool. You can find a link to this tool in the Resources section of this article.

2. Agree to the terms of service of the website, and click the "I Accept" button.

3. Enter the business name that corresponds to the business license for which you want to search. Alternatively, you can search by business address, business owner's name and by type of business. Click the "Submit" button.

4. Find the business license number for the business for which you were searching. In addition to the business name, the business license search tool will display the business license number, the business license expiration date, the business type, the owner's name and the registered business address.
