How to Care for Glass Top Stoves

Use a cleaning cream to restore the shine to glass stove tops.

Electric glass-top stoves require a soft touch to keep from scratching the surface. While the stoves give a modern feel to a kitchen, they can become old and worn-looking without the proper care. Harsh abrasive chemicals or scrubbing tools can mar the glass surface, eroding the finish or leaving behind deep scratch marks. Using cleaning agents especially for glass stove tops will keep the surface looking polished and satiny smooth.

Things You'll Need

• Dishrag
• Liquid dish soap
• Soft cloths
• Cook top cleaning cream
• Sponge

Instructions

1. Wet a dishrag in a sink with 1 tsp. liquid dish soap and warm water. Wring out the excess liquid.

2. Wipe the dishrag over the glass stove top. For stains, allow the soapy water to remain on the stove top for five minutes to soften the blemishes.

3. Rinse the dishrag with warm water, and wipe it over the glass, removing the stains and soap.

4. Dry the stove top with a soft cloth.

5. Apply 2 tbsp. of cook top cleaning cream to a damp sponge. Rub the cream into the glass using medium pressure.

6. Rinse the sponge and wipe it over the stove top, removing the cleaning cream.

7. Dry the glass stove top with a soft cloth.

Tips & Warnings

• Avoid scooting pots and pans across the glass stove top, which can scratch the surface.

• When spills occur on a hot glass stove top, turn off the heat and allow it to cool before wiping up the liquid. If you want to clean the spill before the stove has cooled, put on an oven mitt to avoid burns.
