How to Make LED Lights "Chase"

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are electronic light sources that are commonly seen in electronic devices. LEDs produce a constant intense light that requires only a small portion of the energy used by regular light bulbs. LEDs can be strung together in large numbers and programmed with the use of an LED driver or controller. These controllers can be used to make lights "chase" or blink in complex patterns. Chase patterns are popular for signs and holiday lighting and can provide a sense of motion to a stationary object.

Things You'll Need:

  • Leds
  • Led Driver Or Controller
  • Solder
  • Soldering Iron

Purchase an LED driver or controller that has a chase feature.

Solder an LED lighting fixture to the LED driver or controller. Connect wires to the appropriate charged connectors. The negative wires running from the LEDs should be soldered to the negative connector wire from the LED driver. The positive wires running from the LEDs should be soldered to the positive LED driver wire.

Connect the LED lighting fixture to outlet power or insert batteries into the battery slot of the LED driver.

Press the "Function" or "Chase" button on the LED driver/controller to switch between blinking and chase patterns.
