Directions for Simmering Potpourris
Simmering potpourri can give your house a fresh, vibrant smell that you can customize to suit your taste. You can purchase commercial simmering potpourri, or make your own by combining common spices and household ingredients such as nutmeg, cloves, orange peels, vanilla extract, cinnamon sticks and allspice. Even if you do buy a ready-made simmering potpourri, you can add extra spices and ingredients that you enjoy. Place the saucepan on your stove, then pour in the water.

Add the potpourri to the pan and stir to blend the potpourri with the water. Turn the heat on to low.

Simmer the mixture for as long as you wish. Add more water whenever it begins to get low. Do not allow the mixture in the pot to completely dry. If the scent begins to fade, add 1 tbsp. of potpourri.

Tips & Warnings
You can use a potpourri pot instead of a saucepan if you have one. Fill the top bowl with the water and simmering potpourri, then light the candle beneath the top bowl. As with a saucepan, do not let the water completely evaporate; add more whenever it begins to get low.
