How to Remove Egg From Paint

How to Remove Egg From Paint thumbnail
Remove egg from your car as soon as possible.

Eggs have become a common weapon for vandals. Enzymes, protein and sulfur in the egg react to paint. If the egg dries, it can lift paint off through adhesion. Even if the paint stays intact when washed off, the egg can permanently stain the paint or cause a whitewash, milky effect. Eggshells can dry in the paint, causing scratches when they are removed. If you have been egged, it's best to remove it from paint as soon as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick off any pieces of eggshell with your fingers. If you can't get them off with your fingers, leave them.

    • 2

Pour 2 cups of vinegar and 2 cups of water into a plastic bucket. Drop a towel in the bucket and saturate it with water.

    • 3

Pick up the wet towel from the bucket and wipe away as much of the egg as you can. Put the towel back in the bucket and rinse it.

    • 4

Hold the towel on the remaining egg, using a moderate amount of pressure. If possible, hold the towel on for 15 minutes. Lay the towel on the egg if the paint is on a horizontal surface.

    • 5

Wipe away the remaining egg with the towel. If the egged area is on house paint, spray it with a garden hose. If the egged paint is on a car, take it to the nearest car wash.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the egg has dulled the paint on your car, apply a light rubbing compound with a soft cloth.

  • Be careful not to scratch the paint with eggshells when wiping off the egg with a towel.
