How to Troubleshoot a Whirlpool QU1500

The Whirlpool Company manufactures a variety of home appliances, including dishwashers. The Whirlpool GU1500 has an upper and lower spray arm, fold-down tines and plate holders, a movable silverware basket and an overfill protection float. While the dishwasher should operate well with general maintenance and care, if problems occur with the unit, performing some troubleshooting may help find the issue and offer a possible resolution.

Things You'll Need

• Power supply
• Water supply
• Automatic dishwashing detergent
• Measuring spoon
• Rinse aid

Instructions

1. Check to ensure the dishwasher is properly connected to a working power supply if the dishwasher will not turn on or operate. Reset circuit breakers or fuses as necessary.

2. Ensure the door is closed tightly if the dishwasher will not start or stops during a wash cycle. Check to see if the water shutoff valve is turned on.

3. Press down on the overfill protection float, located in the bottom of the washer tub, if the dishwasher will not fill with water.

4. Run hot water at the nearest sink prior to starting the dishwasher if it seems to take the dishwasher a long time to run. This will heat the water entering the washer, shortening total wash time.

5. Use approximately 1 tbsp. of automatic dishwashing detergent if the dishes do not seem clean enough after the wash cycle. Add rinse aid (available at most grocery or hardware stores) to the rinse aid container.

6. Avoid overfilling the dishwasher and allow 1 inch of space between dishes and glasses if items become chipped during the wash cycle.
