How to Keep Recognition Awards Simple
Recognition awards are gifts presented to staff or volunteers as a sign of gratitude. Reasons for receiving a recognition award include working with a company for a specific time period, completing a significant task or project, reaching a goal or selling a significant amount of products or services. Some employers spend hundreds of dollars on recognition awards; however, this is not necessary. The cost of the award is not nearly as important as the symbolism behind it.

1
Create a customized award using Microsoft Word or something similar. Alternatively, you can order customized awards online or pre-made awards that have a blank space to write the award recipient's name and the employer's name and signature. Have significant people within the company sign the award to indicate that the employee's hard work is not only recognized but appreciated by his superiors. Although simple and inexpensive, a paper award is something that many employees will frame and hang in their office as a special keepsake.

2
Purchase a small trinket to go along with the paper award. Again, this does not have to be expensive or lavish to be cherished by an employee. Ideas include a customized mug, a small desk plant, a company T-shirt, a gift card tailored to the employee's interests, a box of chocolates or even a voucher for a day or two off work.

Take a picture of the employee receiving her award and/or posing with her superiors. Print the picture and have her superiors write a line or two on it, along with their signatures -- a metallic pen or permanent marker works best. Finally, place the picture in an envelope and send it to her home, or place it in her workplace mailbox. This is a far more personalized -- and less expensive -- version of a thank-you card.
