How to Pour Soy Candles

Soy candles can be made by melting soy wax and pouring it into candle containers with wicks. Soy wax is more efficient to use in candles because it burns up to 50 percent longer than wax from paraffin candles. You can buy soy candle wax at most craft and home stores, and it is melted by using a double boiler over heat. The wax must be melted and slightly cooled before pouring in candle containers.

Things You'll Need

• Double boiler pot
• 1 lb. melted soy wax
• Clear tape
• Candle containers
• Wicks

Instructions

1. Soy wax comes in all forms, but it is generally sold in slabs, each weighing an average of 10 lbs. Melt the wax by breaking off pieces from the slabs and melting it using a double boiler.

2. Dip about half of each wick into melted wax. Press each wick into the center of each candle container.

3. Make your wicks stand up straight by cutting a slit in a piece of clear tape and placing the tape across the top of each candle container. Pull the top of each wick through the tape so that they each stand strong and straight.

4. Pour in a small amount of wax into each candle container. Allow this initial pour to cool and become firm in the bottom of your candle containers. Once the initial pour has set, continue to pour melted soy wax into the candle containers, allowing about 1/2 inch of candle wick to remain above the wax.

5. Allow your candles to cool and set before you light the wicks and use them.
