How to Locate People without Paying Any Money
There are several ways to search for someone that don't involve a fee. You can use public records, phone books and social media websites to find someone or reconnect with an old friend. You can take the information you have and strategically search various websites for information. It's important to note that free searches may only find basic information about someone, so you may want to consider paying if you need more detailed information, like a background check.

1
Visit or call the city or county clerk's office where the person lives to request public information. You should be able to find property deeds, tax records or various licenses.
-
2
Visit a public library and request a reference librarian's help. Librarians can access public databases from other places and request information from other public libraries. This may help you widen the search if you're not sure where the person lives.

3
Visit the White Pages website (see Resources below). Enter the information you have about the person you want to find and click the "Find" button. You can also type in a phone number if that's all you know. A list will appear of names, addresses and phone numbers. Know that this search is easy, but it only works if the person you're looking for has a land-line telephone.
-
4
Visit your favorite search engine website, like Google, Yahoo or Bing. Type in the name of the person you want to find and any additional information you have, then click "Search." If the person you're looking for has their own website or blog, this is the easiest way to find it.
-
5
Visit the MySpace website and type the person's name in the "Search People" box on the top right side of the page, then click the "Search" button. If the person you're looking for has a MySpace page, it will appear on the list.
-
6
Visit the Facebook website and enter your information to sign up. This is free, but you will need your own account to search for someone. Once you get to your home page, type the person's name in the "Search" box at the top of the page and click "Search." A list will appear of people with that name who have Facebook pages.
-
7
Visit the LinkedIn website and enter the person's name in the "Search For Someone By Name" section at the bottom of the page. This is mostly a professional site for resumes and business information, so you may be able to find someone if you know what they do or where they work. It's free to set up an account on LinkedIn, and you will need one to get detailed information about someone else.

Tips & Warnings
Your searches may find a surprising number of people with the same name, so it might take you some time to sift through the search results to find the person you're looking for.
Social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn may not show you personal information unless you send a "Friend Request" or ask them to join your network. It depends on what security features a person uses on their page.
