How to Break Into Commercial Print Modeling thumbnail
Commercial print models can be any size or shape.

Commercial print modeling is different from typical modeling. Commercial prints are advertisements for all types of products, so the models are all different body types, shapes and sizes. To break into commercial modeling, there are a few steps you can take.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a photographer who is familiar with how to take headshots. If your budget allows, get some full-length shots done as well. Wear colors that flatter your skin tone and avoid wearing clothes that have loud prints or logos on them.

    • 2

Build a portfolio of looks based upon what you think you could get cast for. For instance, if you are a 30-year-old woman, you may want to have a mom look or a professional look. Create a versatile portfolio with many different looks.

Create a comp card. A comp card is a sheet with your pictures, measurements and information on how to contact you. This is basically your model business card. Do not print many as you may become linked with an agency that has different requirements for the comp card.

Find local modeling and talent agencies. The Screen Actors Guild, or SAG, has online listings that can be searched. Find out what they require for new submissions. Some agencies allow online submissions, others will require that you mail in your comp card. Send out as many comp cards as you can and wait for a response.
