How to Put Christmas Lights on a Deciduous Tree Outside
While pine trees are the traditional holiday tree of the Christmas season, not everyone is lucky enough to have evergreens in the yard. If your only trees have lost their leaves, you can still have a festive holiday look at Christmas by stringing lights throughout the branches. At night, you'll have the look of hundreds of little fairy lights floating in the air as the thin branches disappear in the dark, leaving only the twinkly Christmas lights in view. Things You'll Need
- Stake or tent peg
- Mallet
- Electrical tape
- Plastic bag
- Extension cord
- Outdoor twinkle lights
- Ladder
- Plastic zip ties
Instructions

Hammer a stake or tent peg into the ground at the base of your tree. Plug the first string of lights into the extension cord and tape the plugs to the stake.

Cover the end of the stake and the two plugs with a plastic bag. Wrap electrical tape around the opening of the bag to tightly seal it against moisture.

Connect the other strings of lights all together to make one long strand. Cover all the connections with electrical tape to keep moisture out.

Wrap the strand of lights around and up the trunk of the tree. When you reach the lowest branch, fasten the strand to the branch with a zip tie.

Weave the light strand through the branches, fastening it with zip ties here and there to keep the wires in place.

Tips & Warnings
Don't connect more than three strings of lights together on one extension cord. If you want to use more than three strings, set up a second extension cord for the additional lights.
