How to Learn Russian Letters

How to Learn Russian Letters thumbnail
The Russian language uses the Cyrillic alphabet.

The Russian language may look intimidating to an English speaker, but the letters of the Russian alphabet are not hard to learn with a little practice. Russian uses the Cyrillic alphabet and is made up of 33 letters. Five of these letters are the same as English and pronounced the same way. Six of the letters look the same as English yet are pronounced differently. The remaining 22 letters can be learned with practice. Since Russian is a phonetic language, once you learn the alphabet you will be able to read Russian. As you read the foreign words aloud you might be surprised at how many sound very familiar to you.
