The best treatment for aluminum is to keep it in a cool and dry place, but this is not always possible. One way to prevent serious rust is to examine your aluminum objects regularly for rust.   • Steel wool
  • Lime juice
  • Table salt
  • Naval jelly
  • Paper towel
  • Cloth

      Scrub the rust off the aluminum with the steel wool in circular motions to remove the surface rust.

      Create a paste of one part lime juice and two parts table salt. Apply the paste with a cloth or paper towel to all the rusted areas of the aluminum. Leave the paste on for two to three hours.

      Scrub the paste into the rust with steel wool. Wet a cloth or paper towel and wipe away the paste and the rust. Dry the aluminum with a paper towel.

      Pour a little naval jelly onto a steel wool pad and apply it to the aluminum. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. Naval jelly contains phosphoric acid that breaks down the rust.

      Wipe away the naval jelly and the rust with a cloth or paper towel. Dry the area with a paper towel.
