Making your own soap at home does not have to be a challenging project. Many different soap bases exist today, with glycerin being the easiest to work with. Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 1-lb. block of glycerin soap with a knife into small 1-inch sections. Place the glycerin into a microwave-safe bowl.

    • 2

Place the glycerin into the microwave. Heat it in 30-second intervals until it melts completely. Stir the glycerin to encourage it to melt. The glycerin will appear smooth when it melts.

    • 3

Add 1/2 oz. of essential oil for each pound of glycerin soap. Add your preferred choice of soap dye to the glycerin. Stir to mix the essential oil and dye.

    • 4

Spray the bottom of your soap mold with rubbing alcohol to prevent bubbles. Pour the glycerin soap into the mold, and then spray the top of the soap with rubbing alcohol.

    • 5

Allow the soap to cool for 24 hours in the mold. Turn the mold over to remove the glycerin soap. Place the soap on a cutting board, and cut it into even bars with a knife. You can make clean cuts by warming the blade of the knife in hot water.
