How to Apply for a Citizenship Test
Applying for citizenship is exciting as it is scary. When becoming a U.S. citizen, you are given all of the rights and benefits as all other individuals living in the country as legal citizens. However, there are many steps in becoming a citizen. The final step includes taking and passing the citizenship test. Once you pass, you become a U.S. citizen.

Live in the United States for more than five consecutive years. You must be 18 years old to apply.

Apply for naturalization to begin the citizenship process through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website and pay the required $675 fee. It takes several months to process this information. You receive notification in the mail of your accepted or denied application.

Go to a USCIS facility. Have your fingerprint taken. Set up an interview date. You answer questions about your application form during the interview.

Complete the U.S. English and civics test, if required to take one. If you have lived in an English-speaking country for the majority of your life (such as the UK or Canada), you may be considered exempt from this. If not, you must prove you are capable of reading, writing and speaking English. You must answer 6 of the 10 civics questions correctly. You have two additional opportunities to take the test if you do not pass the first time.
