How to Sharpen Andis & Oster Clipper Blades

Things You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- Standard screwdriver
- Three-stone sharpening system
- Clean cloth(s)

Disassembly

Unplug the clippers from the electrical outlet or remove the batteries if you have a battery-powered model. Unscrew the two screws securing the guide blade to the clippers with a Phillips screwdriver.

Remove the moving blade from the guide blade.

Unscrew the screws securing the guide to the blade guide with a standard screwdriver.
Sharpening

Place the cutting side of the moving blade on the surface of the coarse stone of a three-stone sharpening system.

Insert the oscillating arm of the clippers into the hole of the moving blade and press the clippers down on the moving blade.

Plug the clippers into a power outlet or replace the batteries. Turn on the clippers and slide the moving blade slowly along the surface of the stone for approximately two minutes. Hold the clippers with even pressure against the moving blade to prevent slippage during sharpening.

Turn off the clippers, lift them from the moving blade and wipe away any grime from the sharpening process with a clean cloth.

Place the cutting side of the guide blade face down on the same stone and slide it back and forth along the surface of the stone for approximately two minutes. Wipe away any excess grime with a clean cloth.
Reassembly

Unplug the clippers from the electrical outlet or remove the batteries if you have a battery-powered model. Screw the guide back onto the guide blade with a standard screwdriver.

Place the moving blade on the oscillating arm of the clippers.

Place the guide blade on top of the moving blade and screw it into place with a Phillips screwdriver.
