How to Make Perpetual Plaques
Perpetual plaques are plaques designed for recognizing individuals publicly for specific deeds or services. These usually have a specific accomplishment, such as Employee of the Month, written on the top and the name, date and individual who won the award engraved on a small plate. The plaques are then displayed in a public location.

1
Obtain a wood board in any preferred wood and size. The size of the board will differ depending on the preferred size of the perpetual plaque. Get a board that is slightly larger than the preferred plaque size so that it can cut down to size and shape.
-
2
Trace the preferred plaque pattern or design onto the wood board. Put the pattern over top of the wood and trace through the paper, or use a small knife to trace the pattern through the paper. Then, trace with a pencil.

3
Put on goggles. This is a safety measure before using an electric saw to prevent splinters from flying up and hitting the eyes.
-
4
Turn on the electric saw. Saws are usually turned on with a switch, though exact methods will differ for each specific saw. Cut along the traced pattern to cut out the basic plaque shape.
-
5
Sand the plaque back and forth or up and down along the direction of the wood grain. Use a fine grit sandpaper, such as 400 or 600 grit, to get the smoothest results.
-
6
Attach the engraved metal plates to the plaque. Depending on the perpetual plaque, the engraved parts are either attached using an adhesive such as wood glue or a similar strong glue, or by using a screw. If the metal plates require screws, drill holes in the appropriate side.
-
7
Attach a hook to the back of the plaque. Exact methods of attaching the hook will differ for each hook. Some come with an adhesive material, while others do not. Hooks like those found on the back of picture frames are ideal, though similar hooks will work as well.
