How to Delete Old PTR Records Automatically

If you want to delete the old PTR record files that needlessly litter your computer's hard drive automatically, you can do so by scheduling a routine operation of a native utility called Disk Cleanup. Disk Cleanup is designed to rid your hard drive of these files, but it typically must be run manually. If you schedule Disk Cleanup to run automatically, however, it will delete these and other types of needless files on a schedule.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Click "Control Panel."

    • 3

      Click "Administrative Tools."

    • 4

      Click "Task Scheduler."

    • 5

Click the "Create Basic Task" option from the "Action" menu in the main Task Scheduler window. In the next screen, type a name that you'd like to give your new scheduled task and click "Next."

    • 6

Select a frequency at which you would like Disk Cleanup to run and click "Next." In the window now on screen, click "Start a Program," "Next." Click "Browse." You can either select the "Disk Cleanup" icon from the Windows folder of your C:/ hard drive or type "cleanmgr.exe" into the box. Click "Open," followed by "Next" and "Finish." Disk Cleanup will now automatically run at the frequency at which you specified and clean the old PRT records from your hard drive.
