How to Move a Car With No Wheels

by Brenda Priddy

Moving a car without wheels is a difficult task. The best way to move a car without wheels is to pull it along the ground with a winch. You can pull the car into a trailer, which you can then use to transport the vehicle to your desired location. This project is very challenging and dangerous, and should only be attempted by qualified professionals.

Step 1

Place the end of the cable strap around a large tree base. If you do not have a tree nearby, then wrap the cable around a large post supported by rebar and heavy cement pavers buried at least four feet into the ground. Place the cable strap as close to the ground as possible.

Step 2

Pull the clutch lever on the winch up, while pushing the safety lever down. This disengages the clutch so you can unwind the cable.

Step 3

Screw a large clamp to both of the tow points under the front of the car. Tow points are made of heavy steel bolted to the underside of the car. Pull a heavy chain through both clamps, then use one final clamp to hold the edges of the chain together.

Step 4

Attach the cable to the clamp holding the chain ends together.

Step 5

Create a safety strap to guide the cable if it breaks. Clamp a long piece of strap to the area where the chain and the cable connect. Attach the other end of the strap to a heavy tire placed on the hood of the vehicle.

Step 6

Line up the trailer with the front of the vehicle. Place a gently sloping board over the metal ramp to the trailer to prevent damage to the bottom of the vehicle.

Step 7

Get inside the car and shift the transmission to the neutral setting. This will help the wheel rims turn easier and make the dragging process go faster.

Step 8

Put on heavy leather gloves to protect your hands. Pull the lever on the winch to slowly drag the vehicle forward. It may require two people to pull the levers. Slowly pull the vehicle forward until it is inside the trailer. From there, you can move the vehicle to any location you want.
