Having your car break down can be a scary and stressful situation. If you should ever find yourself in this circumstance, there are several things that need to be done, you can call for assistance and get home safely.

1. Pull over to the side of the road, as far as possible, and turn on your hazard lights.

2. Open your hood and tie a piece of cloth around your radio antenna to signify that you need help. Police officers and tow truck drivers understand this sign and may pull over to help you if they see this.

3. Identify any landmarks or mile markers near you, so that when you call for assistance, someone can easily find you.

4. Call your friends and family to see if they can come pick you up. If not, proceed to the next step.

5. Dial 4-1-1 on your phone for information. Call a tow truck service and ask them to help you. Remember the landmarks or mile markers you identified earlier, so that they can find you.
