FJ Cruiser Ski Rack Installation Instructions

FJ Cruiser Ski Rack Installation Instructions thumbnail
Spend less time packing and more time making powder turns when your SUV is outfitted with a ski rack.

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is super sporty and can accommodate everything from grocery shopping, to soccer practice, to family ski trips. It is an ideal all-terrain vehicle for getting to the mountains in all weather conditions. Yet, with a car full of kids, little room remains for skis and snowboards. Installation of a Thule rack is the best solution. It mounts onto the factory luggage rack and totes gear in style, making it the ideal after-market addition to a sporty new ride.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the load bars, equipped with the railing feet, on the roof rack of your FJ Cruiser.

    • 2

Ensure the bars are separated, front to back, by at least 24 inches.

    • 3

Slide the load bars through the feet so that the bars are centered on the rack and the vehicle.

    • 4

Wrap the attached foot strap around the luggage rail and place the tabbed end into the slot on the opposite end of the foot.

    • 5

Stick the Allen wrench end of the handle into the bolt located on the outside of the foot. Hold the strap in place and tighten the bolt by turning the handle clockwise. This secures the foot to the rail.

    • 6

Insert the handle into the slot provided underneath the bolt and snap it onto the foot.

    • 7

Repeat the process for the remaining three feet.

    • 8

Rotate all four of the mounting clips on the ski carrier into their open position (perpendicular to the length of the rack).

    • 9

Starting with the front half of the ski rack, place the mounts on top of the front load bar.

    • 10

Assemble the mounting points by loosely threading the bolts provided through the upper and lower mounting clips on both ends of the rack.

    • 11

Center the ski rack on the load bar and tighten all the bolts, using the supplied Allen wrench.

    • 12

Repeat the process for the rear rack, taking care to center it to match the front rack.

    • 13

Install Thule locks to both load and ski carriers.

Tips & Warnings

  • When placing the load carrier onto the roof, make sure that the straps do not impact the vehicle, causing a scratch or dent.

  • The short roof adapter (Thule #477) can interfere with the operation of this particular ski carrier.

  • Locks for both the load carrier and the ski rack are sold separately and are not necessary for installation or use.

  • Although it is optional, Thule recommends adding locks to both the load carrier and the ski rack. If you lock one and not the other, a thief could make off with the rack assembly and your prized possessions.
