How to Handle a New Boss
Getting a new boss at work can be a challenging period of transition. Your new boss may try to stamp his authority on his new workplace. He may make judgements about every aspect of the business from minute-one of his first day. You can employ a number of intelligent techniques to ensure that your new boss remembers you for all the right reasons, none of which should significantly disrupt your usual working pattern.

1
Introduce yourself to your new boss. Take two minutes out of your day to meet your new manager, if she hasn't been introduced to you already. A good, firm handshake goes a long way here. Offer your new boss any help she needs and let her know you are always on hand if she needs you. If your boss is new to the area, give her some friendly advice about convenient local amenities. Bear in mind that your recommendations may reflect on you, positively or negatively.

2
Manage your expectations in the workplace. Your new boss may reassess employees' responsibilities, so you might find that you either lose or gain some influence around the office. Furthermore, while you might have been very popular and friendly with your last manager, it's unlikely this will be the case straight away with a new manager. Behave professionally and be courteous around your new boss to leave him with the right impression.

3
Examine your new boss's history, working habits, personality and expectations. Be careful to weed out any gossip from the truth. Some managers are sticklers for punctuality; if this is the case with your new boss, be sure to turn up on time for work and any appointments. Although your new boss may not remember you for being on time, she will certainly remember you if you're late. Work out your boss's personality traits to help establish a good working relationship.

4
Show your new boss patience and understanding. While gaining a new manager at work is stressful for you, imagine what it is like for the new boss--particularly if he is replacing someone who had been in charge for a long time. Albeit influential in your career, your new boss is one new person for you to meet and greet. Your new boss has to make the acquaintance of plenty of people. Your boss might forget your name, or the role you play in the workplace, but do not let this bother you. It does not mean that you will not establish a good relationship with your new boss. Continue to work hard and be punctual, polite and effective in the workplace and your boss will soon see how important you are.

Tips & Warnings
Remember that different people react differently to behavior. While one new boss might enjoy your friendly introduction and advice, others might see you as a sycophant who is overstepping her mark.
