How to Remove Paint From Chromium
Polished chrome is a magnificent sight, especially on a muscle car. During paint jobs, you may accidentally get paint on the chrome sections of your car. Luckily removing paint from chrome is easy to do without damaging the quality of the chrome.
Things You'll Need
- Rubber gloves
- Newspaper
- Several soft rags
- Paint stripper or thinner
- Plastic scraper
- Nylon scrubber
- Soap
- Bucket

Put on your rubber gloves to prevent getting paint thinner on your bare skin. Put newspaper on the floor of your workspace.

Soak several rags in paint stripper or thinner. Lay them across the painted chrome and let sit for 30 to 60 minutes. Check every 15 minutes and remove the rags when the paint is loosened.

Scrape at the loose paint with your plastic scraper. Rub at the loosened paint with your nylon rubber. Be firm, as neither of these tools can scratch chrome.

Clean the surface with soap and water using clean rags. Dry with soft cloths.

Repeat the process as many times as you need until all the paint has come off.

Tips & Warnings
Paint thinner is toxic. Work in a well-ventilated area.
