How to Troubleshoot a Tally Printer

Tally has been producing printers for over 40 years. Its products are known and trusted worldwide. There are a number of different makes and models available. Consult the owner's manual for your particular printer. Problems that can occur with your Tally printer are simple to diagnose and troubleshoot, whether it is an issue with a paper jam or toner cartridge.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to see that the printer is set to the "ON" position if the unit will not power up. The switch is beside the paper tray toward the bottom of the printer. Ensure that the power cord is securely plugged into the power outlet as well as the printer. Check the office or household electrical panel for any tripped breakers or blown fuses. Reset any breakers and replace fuses with others of the exact same amperage rating.

    • 2

Carry out the specific action recommended by the status indicator if a print instruction was sent but processing did not start.

    • 3

Ensure that the plastic seal in the toner cartridge has been removed if nothing is able to be printed. Switch the power off to the printer. Open the top cover and remove the cartridge. Place the cartridge on a flat surface (to keep the ink evenly distributed) and pull out the seal, taking care to remove it horizontally, because it could break if removed at a diagonal angle.

    • 4

Replace the toner cartridge if the paper is printed black. Open the top cover to the printer and remove the old cartridge. Remove the new cartridge from the packaging. Do not expose the cartridge to direct sunlight and take care not touch the photosensitive drum. Do not place or stand the new cartridge upside down or on its side. Gently shake the cartridge side to side seven or eight times to distribute the toner. Remove the plastic seal strip. Hold the cartridge by the grip and insert it into the slot inside the printer. Securely close the cover.

    • 5

Ensure that the levers at both ends of the fuser unit are pushed down if the print is blurred and faded. Open the rear cover of the printer and push the levers down.

    • 6

Print a few pages if dirt appears at equal intervals on the printed pages. The paper feed route may have become stained.

    • 7

Open the rear cover of the printer and push the two levers up if envelopes are coming out of the unit wrinkled. This should help reduce wrinkling. After printing the envelopes, return the levers to their original positions.

Tips & Warnings

  • The printer motor will run for two to three minutes when the power is first turned on.
