How To Get a Mobile Home License

How To Get a Mobile Home License thumbnail
If a mobile home is not on the owner's land, it generally needs a license.

Mobile homes that are situated on land that the resident does not own, or are still on their axles or on the road, generally need to be licensed. The law changes from state to state on just when a mobile home needs to be licensed and which agency you need to acquire the license from. Each section of the mobile home requires its own license. Also, if you are moving the mobile home, you need to have a proper driver's license classification to do so.

Instructions

Measure the dimensions of your mobile home. Also, determine the year of your mobile home's manufacture. In many states, these factors can determine if you need a license, or where you get the license from.

Contact your local Department of Motor Vehicles or Department of Transportation. Inform them that you are interested in a license for your mobile home. They will most likely ask for the length and year of manufacture. Once they have that information, they will either tell you which form you need or will direct you to another agency, which will be either the Department of Taxation or the Department of Commerce. If so, contact the correct agency and ask for the proper forms.

Fill out the forms. They will be provided to you in either physical or pdf form. You will have to provide a copy of your title and registration along with the form and any fees required. Send the forms to the address (physical or email) provided.
