How to Troubleshoot an OKI LED Printer
Whether you own a Okidata LED printer or just use one at work, it is helpful to have some basic troubleshooting skills at your disposal. Since the OL 400/800 line of Oki printers is based on LED technology, having a good understanding of that technology can help you develop the troubleshooting skills you need. The ability to fix common problems on your own helps you avoid unnecessary service calls, saving you money and reducing downtime at the same time.

1
Remove the imaging drum and place it in a dark room for several hours if the pages print blank. The imaging drum may have been exposed to light and damaged. Replace the imaging drum if the pages still print blank.
-
2
Open the top cover of the printer and press the two large blue buttons on either side of the printer. Lift the LED assembly and remove the imaging drum. Clean the transfer wire inside the printer, then replace the imaging drum with a new one.

3
Change the type of paper you use if the pages come out with a gray background. The cotton fibers inside the paper can cause a buildup of static electricity, which can in turn cause the gray tint on the paper. If the paper prints all or mostly black, the imaging drum should be replaced.

4
Fix pockmarks on the paper by changing the fuser cleaning pad. Open the top cover of the printer and locate the blue fuser cleaning pad. Move the right hand tab slightly to the left and lift the used pad out of the printer. Insert the new fuser cleaning pad, being careful not to get the ink on your hands. Slide it in place, then move the tab over to lock it in place. Replacing the fuser cleaning pad can also resolve problems with streaks or spots on the paper.

5
Change the toner cartridge if you see faint spots or vertical white streaks on the paper. Open the top cover and press the two tabs on the front of the printer to unlock the unit. Locate the yellow spots on either side of the cartridge and pull the old toner out of the cartridge. Insert the new cartridge and push until it locks into place.
