How to Apply for a Firearms License in Georgia
You must complete and apply for a state firearm license application in order to possess a firearm in Georgia. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, live in the state of Georgia or be considered active duty military personnel. You cannot have any restraining orders against you or any pending civil actions. The fee to file the application varies by county.

Go to your local probate court. There is a probate court in each county throughout the state. (See References.)

Visit the county clerk and complete an application for a firearms license. Some courts have the form available for download on their website. You can download the form and complete it at home and bring it with you to the court offices.

Submit your completed application to the clerk. You will also have to show your current Georgia driver's license to verify your residency.

Complete the fingerprinting process. All applicants must have their fingerprints taken. The fingerprints are examined by the sheriff's office to verify that you are not a fugitive and do not have a criminal record. You may have to go to the sheriff's office to complete the process.

Pay the licensing fee. Each county charges its own fee. As of Fall 2010, a gun licensing fee ranges from $20 to $75. Many probate courts accept cash, check and money orders. Some may accept credit and debit cards.
