How to Spray Polyurethane Enamel
Finish your wood projects with spray polyurethane. This high gloss, clear finish protects your wood craft pieces from dust, dirt and oil and keeps them looking new for years to come. Spray polyurethane is easy to use, but a common mistake is to spray too much too soon and the result is an uneven finish. The trick to achieving a good spray polyurethane finish is patience: you must apply many light coats and allow ample drying time in between each coat.

1
Go to a well ventilated area and place newspaper or a drop cloth in the area where you will be spraying.
-
2
Shake the can of polyurethane spray for the specified amount of time as directed on the label. This should be about five minutes or until the ball bearing moves freely in the can.

-
3
Hold the spray 12 inches away from your unfinished craft piece.
-
4
Spray moving somewhat slowly and use long, sweeping motions.

Stop spraying after you have applied a light coat. You should not be able to see a change in the finish. You will achieve an even finish by applying several light coats.
