      Meet new people. Expanding your social circle can be difficult but extremely worthwhile, as meeting new people begets meeting new friends. Community events such as plays, art shows and sporting events can be places to meet people with common interests. Getting involved in a church or another community organization is another way to establish contacts. You can also meet new people by volunteering. Invite new people to your house for a game night, or perhaps meet at a restaurant for drinks. Keep in regular contact with people you feel a connection with in order to develop a closer friendship.

      Use the Internet to find people with common interests in your area. Look for chat rooms or message boards that are frequented by people in your community. Use this forum make connections with people. Avoid sharing personal information, even simple things such as your name, phone number and address, until you are comfortable doing so. Friendships require effort, and in order to have a friend, you must make time for one.
