Crochet Instructions for an 18" Doll's Clothes

A crocheted cape for an 18-inch baby doll can be made in an afternoon. The cape makes the doll feel cuddly soft while dressing up any outfit. Pompoms can be added to each end of the tie for a different look. This cape can be made in several different colors for the dolly to wear with different outfits. Any pattern crocheted shoes and hat will look fine with the pattern of this simple cape.

Things You'll Need

• 4 oz. 4-ply knitted worsted-weight yarn in a color of your choice
• 1 crochet hook, size F aluminum

Instructions

1. Row 1: Chain 48. Double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook, *chain 1, skip 1 chain, double crochet in the next chain, chain 1, skip 1 chain, 2 double crochets in the next chain. Repeat from * ending with 2 double crochets in the last chain, Chain 3, then turn.

2. Row 2: Skip first double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet. * Chain 1, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet, chain 1, double crochet in the next double crochet and 2 double crochets in the next double crochet. Repeat from * ending with double crochet in top of turning chain. Chain 3, turn.

3. Row 3: Skip first double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet, double crochet in the next double crochet. * Chain 1, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet, double crochet in the next double crochet, chain 1, double crochet in the next double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochets, double crochet in the next double crochet. Repeat from * ending with dc in top of turning chain. Chain 3, turn.

4. Rows 4, 5: Repeat Row 3, increasing 1 double crochet in each double crochet group with chain 2 between each double crochet group. Chain 3, turn.

   At the end of Row 5, the small double crochet groups should have 5 double crochets, and the large double crochet groups should have 6 double crochets.

5. Rows 6, 7, 8: Repeat Row 5, except do not increase. Chain 4, turn.

6. Row 9: Skip first double crochet, treble crochet in the next 5 double crochet. * Chain 2, treble crochet in the next 5 double crochet, chain 2, treble crochet in the next 6 double crochet. Repeat from * ending with treble crochet in top of turning chain. Chain 4, turn.

7. Rows 10, 11, 12,: Repeat Row 9 except chain 3 between double crochet groups. Chain 4, turn.

8. Row 13: *Holding last loop on hook, treble crochet in next 2 treble crochets, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook, chain 5, slip stitch in 5th chain from hook (picot made). Holding last loop on hook, treble crochet in next 2 treble crochet, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook. Chain 4, slip stitch in next treble crochet, slip stitch in the next chain-3 space, picot, slip stitch in same space, slip stitch in the first treble crochet of next group, chain 4. Holding last loop on hook, treble crochet in the next 2 treble crochet, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook, picot. Holding last loop on hook, treble crochet in same space as last treble crochet, yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook. Chain 4, slip stitch in next treble crochet, slip stitch in next 3 spaces, picot, slip stitch in same space. Slip stitch in first treble crochet of next group. Chain 4, slip stitch on top of turning chain.

   Fasten off. Cape should measure 8 inches in length.

9. Ties: Chain 128 and fasten off. Weave chain in beading of row 1.

• Keep stitches even by holding the tension steady as you crochet.

• Always remove mistakes as soon as you realize you have made one. Leaving mistakes will make subsequent rows difficult or impossible to complete.
