How to Clean Oak Hardwood Floors

Oak is one of the strongest and most durable hardwood flooring options on the market. This type of wood can be stained in a number of shades, creating a flooring design that fits with your home's decor style. It is important to clean your oak hardwood floors regularly, as you want to effectively remove dirt and other elements that lead to scratching and dulling of the oak.

Things You'll Need

• Broom, vacuum or dust mop
• Water
• Cleaning mop
• Bucket
• Vinegar

Instructions

1. Sweep the floors at least once a week. Use a broom, dust mop or a vacuum cleaner without a beater brush.

2. Rinse a clean mop with warm water in a bucket, squeeze the water out of the mop and wipe over the oak hardwood as needed if there are sticky areas of buildup.

3. Disinfect by pouring 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon warm water in the bucket. Again, dip the mop in the bucket and squeeze out the water. Wipe the mop over your oak floors, following the grain in clean, even strokes.

4. Let the floors air dry before allowing foot traffic.
