How to Clean Sliding Glass Door Tracks

Save

Sliding glass doors provide your home with natural light and a great view of your garden or back yard. Sliding glass door tracks collect a large amount of debris, including dust, dirt, dead bugs, hair, paper and even small pieces of trash. Vacuuming and cleaning the door tracks will prevent buildup of debris and keep your sliding glass doors moving smoothly.

Things You'll Need

  • Vacuum with attachments
  • Old toothbrush or small, stiff-bristled brush
  • All-purpose spray cleaner
  • Soft cleaning rags
  • Ear swabs
  • Sliding track lubricant
  • Vacuum your sliding glass door tracks once a week with the long, thin nozzle and brush attachments.

  • Brush the door tracks with an old toothbrush or a small, stiff-bristled brush to loosen any caked dirt or debris, especially in the corners of the track. Vacuum any loosened dirt or debris.

  • Spray an all-purpose cleaner on the track, let the spray sit for about 15 to 30 seconds and scrub the track again with an old toothbrush. Scrub the sides of the track grooves as well as the bottom of the track.

  • Wipe away the all-purpose cleaner with a soft cleaning rag. Fold the rag in half, fit the edge of the rag into the track and run the rag back and forth along the track. For smaller spaces, try cleaning with an ear swab.

  • Apply sliding track lubricant to the tracks after cleaning and drying the track.
