How to Care for an Antique Sampler

Anyone lucky enough to own one of these old-time embroidered practice pieces certainly wants to keep it looking its best. While even the most careful attention won't restore the fabric to its original condition, proper care can prevent further deterioration.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • UV-protective Glasses
  • Acid-free Cardboard
  • Brushes For Cleaning
  • Photo Frames
  • Power Brush Vacuum Attachments
  • Sampler
  1. Step 1

    Clean sampler by gently dusting or vacuuming. Never wash it in water.

  2. Step 2

    Use acid-free matting and backing and UV-protective glass in frames.

  3. Step 3

    Hang framed sampler indoors and away from direct sunlight, fireplaces, heat vents, stoves or other heat sources.

Tips & Warnings
  • If sampler is stained or heavily soiled, consult an expert. You risk ruining your sampler if you attempt to wash it.
