How to Clean Stinky Old Leather

Leather is a luxurious and durable material that is used to make furniture, purses, clothing, boots, belts, car seats and wallets. Over a period of time, leather can develop an odor caused by mold or mildew. These can grow on the leather surface and into the deep pockets of leather furniture, resulting in an unpleasant odor. Thankfully, there is a solution to this problem. With these tips, you can restore your old leather to how it was originally.

Things You'll Need

• Baking soda
• Vinegar
• Linseed oil
• Cloth

Instructions

1. Remove stinky smell from old leather by using a damp cloth with 2 tsp. of baking soda. Apply the dampened baking soda to the leather and let it stay overnight. Wipe off the baking soda with a clean damp cloth and buff with a dry cloth.

2. Place the leather outside for a few hours for 2 days. The fresh air and sunlight will help to eliminate unpleasant odors.

3. Clean your old leather with a mixture of vinegar and linseed oil. Mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts of linseed oil in a container. Apply the solution to the leather using a clean cloth. Leave it for 24 hours, then use a soft clean cloth to buff the leather.
