How to Refuse UPS Shipments

If you shop online or from catalogs you are probably comfortable with receiving packages from United Parcel Service, better known as UPS. But when you are not expecting a package or receive someone else's shipment it may necessary for you to step outside of your comfort zone and refuse the shipment. The ease at which you can do so will depend on the delivery method of your UPS man. Sometimes UPS drivers knock on the door to alert homeowners of a package, but when no one is home, unless a signature is required, they leave the package on the front steps.

Tell the UPS driver you will not accept the package. You will need to tell him why you are declining receipt of the package. For example, the name on the package does not match any people living at the address.

Take the package to a UPS facility. Tell the clerk the package was left while you were not at home and does not belong to you. Give the representative a valid reason for why you are refusing the shipment. UPS will return the package to the sender.

Give the package to your UPS driver. She must scan the package with her computer clipboard and enter the reason the package was refused. The box should be in the same condition as it was when it was left, so do not open the package.
