How to Cash a Check at Wal-Mart thumbnail
Wal-Mart has several options available for money transactions.

Wal-Mart is one of the most well-known brands in the world. Based in Arkansas, Wal-Mart has stores all over the United States. Known for its low pricing and no questions asked return policy, Wal-Mart also offers money services to those customers needing additional payment options. You can cash a check at Wal-Mart or get the amount put on a card, which acts like an ATM or credit card. This is great for people who don't have a bank account.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine if you have the type of checks that can be cashed. Payroll checks, government checks, tax checks and Wal-Mart-issued MoneyGram money orders can be cashed.

    • 2

Locate the nearest Wal-Mart using the store locator (see Resources). Go to Customer Service. Any checkout lane with a live person can also assist you.

    • 3

Provide a government-issued ID. This can be a state or federally issued ID such as a driver's license or passport.

    • 4

Pay the fee. As of 2010, the fee to cash checks from $0 to $1,000 is $3.00. The fee for checks over $1,000 and up to $5,000 is $6.00. The limit to cash checks is $5,000.

    • 5

Decide on a payout method. You can receive the money as cash, or Wal-Mart will provide you with a Wal-Mart MoneyCard, which you can use like an ATM or credit card.
