Installation Instructions for Undermount Kitchen Sinks

If you have ever seen a sink that looks as though the countertop fades seamlessly into it, you will realize how visually appealing undermounted sinks can be. Undermount sinks are not only visually appealing but they are very effective at preventing leaks if they are installed correctly. To install an undermount sink, you will need to have a stone countertop that already has the designated hole cut out for the sink. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Dust off the underside of the countertop to remove any dust that remains from the cutting process.

    • 2

Apply a clear silicone caulk to the lip of the sink and push it up towards the designated hole, from below. Press the sink against the underside of the stone countertop.

    • 3

Place a piece of 2-by-4 wooden board over the top of the sink, stretching across its width.

    • 4

Use bar clamps to clamp the sink to the piece of wood. Tighten the clamps to make sure the sink is securely pressed up against the underside of the countertop. The clamps will go down through the drain of the sink. If your sink has two drains, you will require two clamps.

    • 5

Use a two-part epoxy and apply it to the bolt posts glued next to the lip of the sink. You might have to get on your back underneath the sink to look up at it in order to complete this step.

    • 6

Wait ten minutes for the epoxy to set. After it sets you can attach any hardware that clamps to the sink bolt posts.

    • 7

Let the sink sit as long as possible before removing the clamps. Eventually the epoxy and the silicone will be hard enough to hold up the sink. You should wait at least a day before you have the plumber arrive to connect the drain piping.
