How to Make Tassel Tie Backs

How to Make Tassel Tie Backs thumbnail
Tassles add a touch of luxury to basic curtain tiebacks.

Tassel tiebacks are a simple, elegant solution for keeping your curtains tied back out of the way. Although they are inexpensive and easy to make, they can still add a luxurious touch to your decor if you select good-quality cord and yarn to use. Materials with rich opulent colors, such as deep purple, gold and burgundy can also add an Eastern feel to your creations.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a strip of cardboard the same width as the desired length of your tassel.

    • 2

Hold the end of the yarn against one end of the cardboard strip, and then run the yarn along the length of the cardboard.

    • 3

Fold the yarn back on itself to the middle of the cardboard, then wind it around the width of the cardboard so that it wraps over the long end. Continue winding until you reach the desired thickness of your tassel, and then cut off the excess yarn.

    • 4

Tie the long end of the yarn around the wound yarn to gather the strands tightly at one side.

    • 5

Cut through the untied strands of the wound yarn opposite the knot and remove the cardboard.

    • 6

Repeat steps 2 through 5, using the original strip of cardboard, to create three more tassels.

    • 7

Cut two pieces of decorative cord to the desired length of your curtain tiebacks.

    • 8

Sew a tassel to each end of the decorative cord using a darning needle and thread, ensuring that each tassel is secure. Loop the middle of each tieback over the designated hook behind each curtain, then tie the tasseled ends loosely around the curtains.

Tips & Warnings
