Instructions

    • 1

Position a sharp nail at the edge of a metal jar lid and tap it with a hammer to make a hole. The hole marks the top of the ornament.

    • 2

Select a recycled Christmas card with a picture slightly larger than the jar lid.

    • 3

Lay the jar lid over the picture, and trace around the jar lid onto the picture. Cut out the picture, following the traced line, making a circular image slightly smaller than the lid.

    • 4

Print out a photograph of yourself, your pet, your child or another family member. Make the print slightly larger than the jar lid.

    • 5

Lay the jar lid over the photograph, and trace around the jar lid onto the picture. Cut out the photograph along the line but slightly inside it, making a round picture slightly smaller than the lid.

    • 6

Glue the picture taken from Christmas card onto one side of the jar lid, and glue the photograph onto the other side. Position the pictures so that the top of each picture is at the hole you made in Step 1.

    • 7

Position the sharp nail over the hole's location and press down on each side, so there is a hole in the card picture and photograph, both at the same location as the jar's lid.

    • 8

Measure the circumference of the jar lid.

    • 9

Cut a length of decorative lace trim, the same length as the jar lid's circumference.

    • 10

Glue the lace onto the edge of the jar lid. When wrapping the lace around the jar lid, have the ends of the lace meet at the top of the ornament.

    • 11

Insert a thin ribbon through the holes at the top of the ornament for hanging from the Christmas tree.

    • 12

Glue a decorative embellishment, such as a small pinecone, tiny glass ball or piece of evergreen, at the top of the ornament.
