Spyware can seriously harm your computer. These programs can either plant viruses or obtain information from your computer without you knowing. This information includes bank accounts, Social Security numbers, addresses and credit cards. Many times these programs attempt to represent themselves as legitimate anti-virus programs and then trick users into downloading the files. One of the most effective ways to prevent this kind of activity is to create a list of known spyware programs.

1. Find legitimate technology websites like Microsoft to learn more about what spyware does and signs you should look for before downloading anything. Type some of these tips at the beginning of a Word document.

2. Search for lists of known spyware programs.

3. Copy and paste these lists onto the same word document and save. The next time you encounter activity that you may suspect is harmful spyware, reference the document.
