How to Antique Paper Onto Wood

Crackle paint can provide the opportunity to either simulate antique furniture you have coveted or create a look for a piece of furniture that is uniquely "you." Crackle is a faux finish that imbues wood or other surfaces with an old, distressed appearance. Artwork or any image desired can be applied to wood items with relative ease. You can choose to apply paper with crackle paint onto a small wood jewelry box or a large table and expect a similarly beautiful outcome.

Instructions

    • 1

Separate the two unprinted backing layers from the 3-ply napkin and set aside.

    • 2

Scan desired artwork or images into your computer. Place one piece of the napkin layer on a piece of card stock to facilitate carrying the napkin layer through your printer, taping the top and bottom edges to the card stock. The napkin layer should lie flush against the card stock.

    • 3

Print the images and allow to dry.

    • 4

Apply the base color according to label directions and allow to dry. Apply crackle paint and let partially dry according to directions.

    • 5

Carefully remove the tape holding the napkin layer to the card stock and set card stock aside. Mist the napkin layer image with water so its texture resembles the wet crackle paint and place the napkin layer in a desired position on top of the wet crackle paint. Allow to dry.

    • 6

Apply a sealant, let dry and enjoy your finished product.

Tips & Warnings
