How to Sharpen a Pruner
Properly cleaning and sharpening your pruning shears will extend the life of your pruner for decades and help keep your garden looking its best. Many people use their pruners and instead of taking the time to maintain them, they find it much simpler to just buy a new pair, which can get expensive over time. Dip a steel wool pad and the pruner in soapy water. Use the pad to clean the entire pruning shears before sharpening. Rinse off the soap and dry completely with a soft cloth.

Moisten a sharpening file or sharpening stone. Use circular motions on the bevel of the blades to sharpen them.

Rinse off the pruning shears with soapy water. Dry the shears off with a cloth and test them. Repeat sharpening if necessary.
