Keep the welds flowing smoothly with a little troubleshooting.

The Lincoln AC-225 arc welder is a compact stick welder for welding materials such as carbon, low-alloy, and stainless steels as well as cast iron. Lincoln's products are widely used and trusted. However, as with most machines, it can develop problems. Usually these are fairy simple to diagnose, whether it be an issue with obstructed air flow or a damaged contact tip. Run through a few troubleshooting steps before calling in a service repairman.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the Lincoln welder to cool down if there is no weld output or flow of gas when the gun trigger is pulled and the fan is operating normally. The thermostat may have tripped due to overheating. Try welding at a lower-duty cycle. Check the lines for any obstructions to the air flow. Inspect the gun trigger connections for damage. Replace the trigger if necessary. Contact Lincoln Electric to replace the trigger or any other parts for your welder.

    • 2

Ensure that the welder's power switch is set to "on" if there is no wire feed, weld output or flow of gas when the gun trigger is pulled and the fan is not operating. Try resetting the circuit breaker.

    • 3

Verify that the drive rolls are correctly installed if the drive motor is running and there is no wire feed even when you pull the gun trigger. Ensure that the contact tip and cable liner are the correct size for the Lincoln welder and clear of obstructions or solder clogs.

    • 4

Ensure that there is sufficient gas supply if there is low or no gas flow when the gun trigger is pulled and the wire feed and fan are operating correctly. Inspect the flow regulator and gas hoses for any damage, and examine the gun connection to the machine for any obstructions or leaky seals.

    • 5

Inspect the gun tip for wear and tear or damage if the weld arc is unstable or if you are having problems starting the gun. Check that the gun tip is the right size for the gun. Ensure that the work cables and connections are secure.

Tips & Warnings

  • If after troubleshooting you are still unable to get the welder operating correctly, contact Lincoln Electric.

  • Always operate the welding machine in areas that are well ventilated.

  • Turn the welding machine off during maintenance, unless the maintenance requires it to be operating.

  • Wear gloves and safety goggles when operating the welding machine.

  • Never place your hand near the engine fan when the engine is running.

  • Do not cool the electrode by dipping it in water as this can crack it.

  • Ensure that there are no fire hazards near the welding area. If necessary, cover any fire hazard to prevent the welding sparks from starting a fire.

  • Do not weld anywhere near hydraulic lines.
