How to Design a Chocolate Box

Personalized boxes of chocolate make a delicious gift.

Giving a box of chocolates as a gift can be personalized by designing the box itself. The gift-giver can decorate the outside of the box of chocolates so it best represents the nature of the occasion and the relationship between the two people involved. Designing your own box for chocolates is a personal and artistic endeavor, so there is no right or wrong way to do it. However, it can be useful to brainstorm and research ideas on how to best turn your chocolate box vision into reality.

• Old box
• Glue
• Scissors
• Colored paper
• Stickers (optional)
• Glitter (optional)
• Plastic flowers (optional)
• Photographs (optional)
• Tissue paper
• Chocolates
• Ribbon
• Permanent marker (optional)

Instructions

1. Find a box that is suitable for the size and amount of chocolates you wish to put inside it. Old store-bought chocolate boxes work well as do boxes that once contained envelopes, checks or greeting cards.

2. Cut an outer lining for your box out of colored paper. Pick the color you wish the box to be according to the overall message you wish to convey to the receiver or the overall theme of the box. For example, if the box of chocolates is meant to be a romantic gift, the traditional romantic colors of pink and red would be fitting.

3. Glue the decorations of your choosing onto the box. Good decoration ideas include, colored-paper-cutouts of hearts, flowers and shapes. Small plastic flowers from a craft shop can be pasted onto the lid of the box to create a floral motif. Glitter can be glued on in shapes or letters depending on the designer's personal vision. Stickers can also be easily applied around the outside of the box. Gluing photographs to the outside of the box is a way of personalizing it for the receiver.

4. Place the chocolates so that they are snug inside the box. To make them appear more elegant, place the chocolates on tissue paper that matches the color scheme of the outside of the box.

5. Tie a ribbon across the box and form a bow in the middle of the lid. Pick a color of ribbon that matches the rest of the box design. If desired, sign a note on the corner
