How to Keep the Wipers From Sticking to the Windshield

How to Keep the Wipers From Sticking to the Windshield thumbnail
Your windshield is your window to the road.

Part of the responsibility of owning a vehicle is understanding how to properly maintain it. All of the components on your vehicle work together to keep you and your family safe and protected while driving. For example, your windshield wipers help to clear debris and moisture from the windshield so that you always have a clear view of the road. To be sure the wipers do not stick to the windshield, you must remove ice and snow from it and keep it free of debris.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear all snow away from your windshield and from around the wiper blades. Be gentle. The rubber on the wipers can be damaged easily.

    • 2

Lift the wipers carefully, one at a time, to clear snow from beneath them. If there is ice present as well, scrape it away carefully. Ice will cause the wipers to stick to your windshield.

    • 3

Add a non-freezing solution, such as antifreeze, to your window washer fluid if it hasn't already been added. This will help prevent the fluid from freezing on your windshield, which in turn will cause the wipers to stick.

    • 4

Clean other types of debris and organic materials, such as leaves, from around your wipers on a regular basis. Before you drive, make sure they are always unobstructed to prevent them from sticking.

    • 5

Replace both wipers as soon as one looks worn, cracked or torn or if it stops working properly. Ineffective blades can stick to your windshield.
