How to Get Wax Off of a Candle Stick Holder thumbnail
Candlestick holders add an elegant, decorative touch to your table.

Placing your wax candle in a candleholder prevents candle wax from ending up on your furniture or carpeting. Although the candleholder protects other surfaces from candle wax stains, sometimes the candlestick holder itself accumulates dried, hardened candle wax stains. Remove hardened candle wax from your candlestick holders and return them to their pre-stained condition. There's no need for commercial products to remove candle wax from your candlestick holders; natural products from home will do the trick. Does this Spark an idea?

Turn your hair dryer on the low or medium setting and direct the heat at the candle wax stains on your candlestick holders. Continue to heat the wax until it's completely liquefied or softened enough that you can wipe it off.

    • 3

Wipe the candle wax off your candlestick holders using a clean cloth.

    • 4

Mix 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water in a bowl. Soak the candlestick holders in the bowl so the wax-stained areas are submerged under the vinegar solution. Allow the candlestick holders to sit in the vinegar solution for a couple minutes.

    • 5

Remove your candlestick holders from the vinegar solution and dry them off with a clean cloth. Proceed to the next step if any candle wax or wax residue remains on your candlestick holders.

    • 6

Fill a dishpan with enough hot water to be able to submerge the candlestick holders. Add 1 tbsp. of liquid dish detergent to the water and stir. Allow your candlestick holders to sit in the soap solution for one minute.

    • 7

Take your candlestick holders out of the dishpan and dry them, thoroughly, with a clean, dry cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • Put out your candles with a candle snuffer. Blowing out candles can cause liquefied wax to end up on other surfaces.

  • Cheaply made candles have a tendency to drip and spill over more frequently than high-quality candles.
