Countertops that endure constant use are prone to scratches. Granite countertops are no exception, even though granite is a strong material. Through refinishing, you can restore the look of your granite countertops through polishing in a few hours. Even those with little home improvement experience can get the granite countertops looking like new.
Things You'll Need
- Granite cleaner
- Fine-diamond sanding pad
- Handheld orbital buffer
- Granite sealer
Wipe down the granite countertops with a manufacturer-approved cleaner and dry cloth. Allow the area to fully dry.
Smooth down the entire countertop with a fine-diamond sanding pad. Run the orbital buffer in a circular motion over the countertop, paying special attention to scratches in the surface. Go back and forth on the countertop until the surface is smoothed down.
Wipe dust off the countertop with a dry cloth. Apply a granite sealer recommended by the manufacturer over the entire countertop, and wait two hours while it penetrates the surface. Once dried, apply a second coat and allow to dry.
