How to Paint a Firepit
A metal fire pit will provide heat and give you a convenient, open fire-cooking platform. This handy, outdoor appliance can be easily cleaned while protecting your lawn from fire damage. Your fire pit should be disassembled and cleaned after each use to extend the life of the pit. Seasonal care includes disassembling the fire pit, thoroughly cleaning each piece and a new paint job. Things You'll Need
- Fire pit
- Water hose
- Wire brush
- Drop cloth
- Heat resistant spray paint
- Safety glasses
- Dust mask
- Rubber gloves

Disassemble your fire pit and lay out the individual piece onto your lawn. Spray each piece of the fire pit with your water hose to wash away any dirt or debris. Scrub each piece of the fire pit with your wire brush. Spray the parts clean with your water hose. Allow the pieces of the fire pit to dry completely.

Spread your drop cloth out on the ground. Place your fire pit parts onto the drop cloth leaving the pieces spaced apart. Spray each piece with heat-resistant spray paint. Allow the paint to dry completely. Apply two more coats of paint, allowing each coat to dry completely before the next application.

Flip the fire pit pieces after the third coat of paint has dried. Apply three coats of paint to the opposite side of each piece of the pit. Allow each coat to dry before the next coat is applied. Assemble the parts of your fire pit. Allow the fumes from the paint to dissipate for 24 hours before lighting a fire in your pit.

Tips & Warnings
Always wear rubber gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask when using spray paint.
Only apply paint in an outdoor setting or a well ventilated indoor location.
