How to Sew Dog Bandannas
Even if you don't want to go full out with a sweater and boots, you might want to give your dog a little pizazz and put a special bandanna around its neck. Clothing for well-loved dogs is very popular, and dog bandannas are a popular fashion accent. Look for cotton fabrics in colorful prints such as traditional bandanna prints or dog-related patterns. Spend a couple of hours making these fashion statements for your pet, and you'll have enough for an entire neck wear wardrobe.

1
Measure and cut a square of fabric 18 inches in each direction. Make sure that you do not include the selvage in this square, which is the tightly woven edge that runs along both sides of a fabric bolt.
-
2
Fold the fabric in half diagonally to make a double-layer triangle. Finger-press the fold so that it creates a crease in the fabric. Cut along this crease to produce two identical triangle-shaped pieces of fabric.
-
-
3
Pin under all three edges of the fabric using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. Make the fold toward the wrong side, or less colorful side, of the fabric.
-
4
Sew along all three edges, making sure to stitch near the fold.
-
5
Fold the fabric under again in the same direction, using another 1/4-inch seam allowance. Sew these three edges down, taking care to sew right along the first stitching line.
-
6
Lay the bandanna on your dog's neck with the two tails hanging on either side of its neck and the shorter point aiming toward its tail. Tie the two longer ends together around the dog's neck while making sure it's not too tight and won't restrict its breathing.

Tips & Warnings
This project makes bandannas for larger dogs such as German shepherds and Labrador retrievers. If you have a miniature dog, start with a smaller square of 12 inches across.
