Many collectors and coin buyers prefer to buy coins that have not been cleaned, so it is best to be cautious when deciding to clean a silver coin. If you are inexperienced, it is often better to take your coins to a professional. If you want to clean your silver coins at home there are a few methods you can use that reduce the risk of damaging your coins.

  • Lemon acid
  • Vinegar
  • Acetone
  • Potato
  • Sour milk
  • Sandpaper
  • Steel wool
  • Silver cleaner
  • Iron nails
  • Soft cloth
  • Bowl
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Ammonia

Instructions

      Soak the coin in lemon acid with iron nails. Let the coin sit for a maximum of 30 minutes before you remove it, rinse it and pat it dry.

      If you want to remove only a few spots, clean them with vinegar or sour milk on a soft tissue. Rub very gently. You can also cut a raw potato in half and rub it against the coin.

      If you don’t have lemon juice, soak the coin in polish remover with acetone, rubbing alcohol, vinegar or ammonia. Follow the same procedure as you would with the lemon juice without adding the nails. Rinse with distilled water.
